Can I Feed My Dog Alcohol?

The Indian-home answer
No dog should ever be given alcohol. Beer, wine, whisky, rum, vodka, cocktails, liqueur chocolates, rum cake, alcohol-soaked desserts, fermented drinks, and raw yeast dough are all unsafe.
Dogs are smaller than humans and can become ill from amounts that look minor to us. Alcohol can depress the nervous system, affect breathing, coordination, blood sugar, and body temperature, and can become life-threatening.
Where alcohol exposure happens
Dogs may lick spilled beer at a party, drink from a glass kept on the floor, eat rum cake, chew alcohol-filled chocolates, lick fermented batter, or eat raw yeast dough. In social gatherings, guests may laugh and offer “just a sip.” That should never happen.
Raw yeast dough is a special risk because it can expand in the stomach and produce alcohol during fermentation. This can create both bloat and alcohol poisoning concerns.
Signs of alcohol poisoning
Possible signs include vomiting, wobbling, weakness, sleepiness, disorientation, low body temperature, slow breathing, tremors, seizures, or collapse. Because signs can worsen, do not wait for the dog to “sleep it off.”
Call a veterinarian or emergency clinic immediately if alcohol was consumed. Share the dog’s weight, type of alcohol, amount, time of exposure, and symptoms.
What not to do
Do not try to make the dog walk it off. Do not give coffee, salt water, lemon, curd, ghee, or home detox drinks. Do not induce vomiting unless a vet instructs you. Alcohol cases need professional judgment.
Keep the bottle or food packaging so the vet can understand alcohol strength and ingredients.
Prevention in Indian homes
During parties, keep drinks on high counters. Clear plates with rum cake, fruit cake, and desserts quickly. Tell guests and children that dogs cannot taste alcohol, even for fun.
